Parts, Tire Store Sales Remain Strong in September 2020
Retail sales at automotive parts, accessories, and tire stores remained strong in September, according to the Census Department’s Retail Sales report released on 11/17. Sales were $8.52 billion, seasonally adjusted. While down slightly from August 2020, they are 7.5% higher than they were in September.
After a sharp contraction during the spring lockdown sales quickly recovered and have remained above the long-term trend line (the dashed line in the chart above) for the past five months. This data is consistent with strong sales and earnings reports from the large parts chains such as Advance, AutoZone, and O’Reilly.
